UK Box Office Predictions: Is It Doctor Sleep’s Time To Shine?

UK box office predictions w/c 21st October: How did we do?

Against our expectations, Joker stayed top of the UK cinema charts. Terminator: Dark Fate failed to make an impact on the UK Box Office appearing second with a modest £2.8m debut, which must surely be a terminal blow for the ageing and now overly-complicated franchise.

Otherwise, Countdown did slightly better than our predictions (but not by much, debuting in eight instead of ninth) and Zombieland: Double Tap and Gemini Man did worse slipping to seventh and tenth respectively.

Check out our past UK box office predictions.

What’s happening at the UK Box Office this week?

It’s Halloween weekend, which could give films with spooky, horrific or fantastical themes a boost, including Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, the Addams Family, Zombieland: Double Tap, Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon and Countdown.

Joining the fray is Shining-sequel Doctor Sleep, which is the only major film to be released this weekend. Reviews have been reasonably positive for the Kubrick follow-up with NME saying that the “trauma-fuelled sequel brings fresh scares to ‘The Shining’ story’.

Regardless, there’s a chance that Ken Loach’s new drama Sorry We Missed You has every chance of entering the top ten, being released on over 100 screens to strong reviews. Empire described the film as an ‘important and timely watch’.
