UK box office predictions w/c 14th October: How did we do?
Last week was our best week for a long time, as we got eight out of ten of our predictions right!
Disney will no doubt be disappointed that Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil wasn’t able to debut at number one, but Joker has been so phenomenally successful with UK audiences that it was always going to be a big ask for anything to knock it off the top spot. In the end, Joker took £5.5m, easily beating Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil’s £3.3m.
We only went wrong when we said that Zombieland: Double Tap would debut in fifth. It actually did slightly better, debuting in fourth instead, slotting just above Abominable.

What’s happening at the UK Box Office this week?
He said he’d be back, and this weekend we see the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger to our screens with Terminator: Dark Fate. What makes things really interesting is the return of Linda Hamilton and James Cameron to the ailing franchise. Can they take down the Joker this weekend?
There are two good things in the Terminator’s favour: an early Wednesday preview and generally strong reviews. The Sun said that the film was ‘a solid, entertaining reboot of a classic franchise’.
Also appearing on over 300 screens is wildcard animation the Addams Family. Reviews haven’t been kind, with the Telegraph describing the film as ‘no fun at all’. But it’s a well known franchise that’s being released near to Halloween and half term, which means that it could do very well. For now, we’re predicting only modest success for the latest addition to the spooky and kooky reboot as it will face stiff competition from the better-reviewed Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon and Abominable.
Finally, cashing in on Halloween, is the apparently terrible horror Countdown. The Guardian was scathing when it said that the ‘hapless haunted app horror should be uninstalled.’ The bad reviews won’t help its performance, but we’ve noticed that it’s got a lot of screenings so it may appear at the bottom of the charts.
