UK box office predictions w/c 18th Feb: How did we do?
Our predictions for the top three spots at the UK box office were spot on! After that, it all went a bit higgledy-piggledy. The main reason for this was Cold Pursuit’s lacklustre performance. We thought this might open in fourth but it actually came in sixth, which is a poor start for the quirky thriller. Cold Pursuit? More like Chilly Jog!
A pleasant surprise came from The Kid Who Would Be King, which actually climbed up the charts after taking a similar box office haul as last week.
Otherwise Bollywood action film Total Dhamaal performed well, slipping in at number nine, and Freddie Mercury rose from the dead with a shock re-entry for the perplexingly Oscar-dominating Bohemian Rhapsody.

What’s happening at the UK box office this week?
In 2016 Eddie the Eagle debuted at number 2 at the UK box office, earning nearly three million pounds. As last weekend The Lego Movie 2 pulled in two and a half million, we think that Fighting With My Family has a good chance of taking the top spot. Favourable reviews, and the star presence of The Rock might also help push this to first place.
Otherwise, the biggest release is historical romance The Aftermath, starring Keira Knightly. With limited screenings and a soft marketing approach we can’t see this breaking into the top five. This could be neck and neck with Cold Pursuit, which we actually expect to do slightly better as The Aftermath has so far received pretty lacklustre reviews.
Other factors to consider are the Oscars bounce for Green Book, which seems to be showing in a few more screens this weekend along with a sharp reduction in screenings for The Kid Who Would Be King (probably because school half term is now over for many schools). If The Aftermath performs badly, Green Book could be as high as seventh but for now we can see it maintaining its position in eighth.
